It is a great pleasure and honour for me to welcome you all to the 4th AGM and National scientific conference of Bangladesh society for colposcopy and cervical pathology.

Cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide and it is the 2nd most common cancer in Bangladesh. The incidence of CC was 8068 and 5214 women died from CC in the year 2018. CC constitutes about 12% of the female cancer in this country.

We all know prevention is better than cure. The Government of Bangladesh (GOB) adopted visual inspection of cervix with acetic acid (VIA) method for cervical cancer screening for the women of 30 years and above every 5 years. The GOB has extended the program to 431 centers at districts and upazilas. VIA +ve women are attending at the colposcopy clinics of BSMMU, and different MCHs for colposcopic evaluation and management. In Bangladesh, colposcopy became an important part of the prevention program both for diagnosis and guiding the treatment and with increasing awareness, gradually increasing number of women will attend private facilities for screening and evaluation.

At the same time pathological evaluation of cervical tissue carries equal importance. Therefore BDSCCP was developed for quality control of this highly specialized services and our society received Government registration in the year 2013. BDSCCP earned membership of IFCPC in July 2016 and a page has been introduced for Bangladesh society in IFCPC website. To prevent cervical cancer, BDSCCP is taking active steps to help government by awareness creation through different ways like, Celebration of “Cervical and Breast Cancer Prevention Week.”  Society also involved in the training of Doctors from private organizations and develop an efficient screening program. BDSCCP is trying to develop Colposcopy Clinic at the private level and helping Government indirectly through standardization of colposcopy clinic and introducing ‘Logbook’ in the training programme. BDSCCP is also participating in the awareness creation programme.

Basic Colposcopy training held at least twice a year. Our society arranged training of 11 batches and so far 90 doctors received traing. Advanced colposcopy training was given to doctors.   After completion of the Basic training, trainees are given a provisional certificate.  Once they fill up the Log book, they should undergone final assessment for certification.

It is worth to mention that BDSCCP is encouraging colposcopy training for junior doctors and doctors practicing for less than 5 years at a very low cost of a duration of 6 days. Society encourages the members for attending colposcopy related scientific programs as well.

Respected chief guest, we are getting cordial cooperation from BSMMU administration, obstetrics & Gynecology and pathology   department.

It’s my great pleasure to know that Bangladesh Colposcopy society is organizing their 4th General meeting and national scientific conference on 10th March, 2019. In a developing country like ours cancer cervix is still  one of the important causes for women’s mortality. Through the prevalence and mortality rates less than before-still cancer is a nightmare when a patient comes in an advanced stage. Prevention is always better than cure. There are so many preventive procedures for prevention of cancer cervix-colposcopy is one of those.

We know that colposcopy is a very good screening method for cancer cervix. Also the other abnormalities like genital warts, cervicitis, and polyps can be assessed with colposcopy. In our country the colposcopy training is disseminated in most of the Government set up through organized program. A good number of non-government organizations and doctors  also  managing the cancer cervix  patients so a organized skilled training may be arranged for them this will also help to prevent cancer cervix  no doubt.

I wish the colposcopy conference great success.

It makes me really happy that of Bangladesh Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BDSCCP) has arranged its 4th National Conference on 10th March 2019.

Cervical cancer is the worst cancer for women and the 2nd most common cancer in the world. Virtually, all cervical cancers are linked to Human Papilloma Viruses. Apart from other environmental factors; women are mainly affected with cervical cancer through HPV infection.

Currently, in almost every country, prevention of cancer is one of the most important stabilization challenges to the 21st century. Every year, there are 5 lakh new patients of this cancer in the world. More than half of the patients are aged between 15 to 45 years.

About 40% of cancer incidences can be prevented by reducing the exposure to cancer risk factors such as food, nutrition, physical activity etc. with approximate awareness. The disease is widespread and women in Bangladesh are not fully aware of the health issues associated with it.

So, I think, that of Bangladesh Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BDSCCP) plays a pivotal role in prevention of cervical cancer. Colposcopy and screening methods have been a blessing in our country’s cervical cancer diagnosis system as this method successfully diagnoses cancer and reduces the risk of cancer.

I wish the best for Bangladesh Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BDSCCP) so that it carries out its activities effectively in the future as well.
